Every three to four weeks, your body will shed its entire skin, as part of the natural process of renewal, but some dead cells hang around, making your skin appear rough, scaly and discoloured. Most of your body you can cover up, but your face is on view 24/7. Time to give nature a boost, and pamper yourself into the bargain! Try these simple exfoliates to give you fresher, younger-looking skin!
1. Combine one tablespoon of raw sugar with one teaspoon of olive oil and massage gently over wrinkles and fine lines, finally wiping face and neck clean, and rinsing with cool water. Smooth, baby!
2. Mix a packet of instant oatmeal with cold water, and rub gently into face and neck. This mix will gently exfoliate and clear surplus oil from your skin.
3. After showering, and while still damp, gently rub sea-salt over your face, rinsing with cool water. This will shift all those dead cells! This can be used for the whole body.
4. For an extra-special facial scrub, combine two tablespoons of dry oatmeal with one tablespoon ground almonds and one tablespoon of raw honey, then massage gently onto your face. Rinse thoroughly to deep cleanse your pores.
For all the above treatments, it is important not to rub too hard. Any pressure that stretches the skin will aggravate sagging and wrinkles. Better to do little and often than the occasional "sandblasting" session. The best way is to use your finger tips in light circular motions all over the face and be gentle with the eye area as the skin there is many times thinner than elsewhere, so it needs a softer touch. Cool, rather than warm water, will give better results as it helps to tighten the skin.
How about some non-toxic skin toners to bring your facial skin to life!
1. Put one whole cucumber through your juicer and strain the juice, add just two teaspoons of raw honey, mix well and bottle the mix. Use by dabbing lightly with cotton wool on your face and neck, morning and night. Allow to dry, then rinse off. This mix will keep in the fridge for about a week.
2. Blend one peeled and cored apple with one tablespoon of raw honey until smooth. Gently apply to your face, and leave for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse off and note how bright your skin looks!
3. Mash half an avocado, and mix with 1/4 cup of raw honey until creamy, then apply to face and neck. Leave for 10-15 minutes, and then rinse with cool water. Don't waste the other half; eat it promptly with prawns and a green leaf salad!
4. Tighten and tone with the strained juice of 1/2 a lemon and one egg white, beat together for about 2 to 3 minutes, then apply to your face. Watch your eyes, this will sting! Leave for half an hour, and then rinse off with warm water. You will see an improvement in tautness and skin tone right away!
The following is an excellent face cream that can also be used for the whole body, and it consists of well-known ingredients guaranteed to renew your complexion by their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions. It may look like a lot ingredients to buy, but they are true skin foods and well worth the effort for the benefits provided. Combine best quality 100% organic pure co enzyme Q10 cream, (alternatively called ubiquinone) with cocoa butter (for that irresistible chocolate aroma) a few drops of frankincense essential oil, and the contents of about 6 vitamin E capsules (a pinhole one end and a good squeeze) with either a few drops of jojoba or coconut oil. Mix well, and then apply all over.
The mix is nutrient rich, lasts for ages in the fridge and hasn't cost you $100 a tub. Other good ingredients for your own custom made face creams include essential oils, shea butter, natural collagen, aloe vera, almond oil, wheat germ oil, glycerine and green tea. Have fun experimenting!
